Stoma’s have an Upside

Have you ever been to a major stadium.  The roar of thousands of people cheering for a team or you is beyond incredible.  There are amazing upsides to these events and also downsides as well.  Much like having a stoma.  One of my favorite things to do is go to sporting events. I love traveling to St. Louis to watch the Cardinals play. I love flying to Texas to watch the Cowboys play. I love catching a train to Los Angeles to see LeBron and the Lake Show play. But one thing that has always bothered me is having to go to the restroom in the middle of the game. Now, when you’re at a professional sporting event, the food and drinks come to you so you don’t have to get up and miss the action. Beer men travel up and down their specific seating areas calling out “Ice cold beer” in hopes of getting you to purchase one of their marked-up beverages.

But a lot of this comes back to issues in the restroom and that is where having a stoma can really be a godsend.  The problem is, the more you drink, the more you have to use the restroom, which means getting up in the middle of the game and missing the action that you paid a ticket to watch. Because of my busy schedule following all of my favorite teams around, I don’t like missing a second of the action. I pay good money to be a super fan. This money doesn’t just involve the price of the ticket, it includes the airfare, the bus ticket, the train ticket, the hotels, and all of my food. It costs quite a bit to be a super fan. It can also be a big issue on road trips as well.  That is why having a stoma is an amazing thing in certain areas and is definitely a positive.

No one wants to miss big events in life.I can’t be getting up constantly to go to the bathroom when I have athletes to cheer on. That was until I no longer had to get up to use the restroom due to an ostomy care procedure I had to have done in the fall of two thousand eighteen. So, what seemed like a curse at the time actually became a blessing. I was able to track down some ostomy supplies that would allow me to stay seated in the stands during my favorite sporting events because my stool was now being collected by a bag and covered by a belt right on the side of my abdomen. The best ostomy gear is not a secret, but it does take searching to find it.

So don’t despair when you find out a stoma is in your possible future.  Be happy that it is helping your life and can be a nice addition to certain aspects of it. Talk about a gift to receive. Although I no longer have ostomy care, I must say, it was actually kind of nice to be able to watch every game without any nature calls that required me to get up from my seat. The number of supplies that have been created to deal with this procedure are quite amazing. I know they helped me greatly in my time of need.
